Latvian guard signs a five-week contract with an option to extend till the end of the season

With immediate effect, Heroes Den Bosch has strengthened itself with the signing of Kaspars Vecvagars (29). The Latvian should solve the problem created at the guard position by the temporary loss of Boy van Vliet and Austin Price. Price has had hip and lower back problems for some time, which has now led the club's medical staff to decide to give the American to be given time to become healthy and ready for the BNXT League cross-border phase and playoffs. Vecvagars has signed a five-week contract with the option for Heroes to extend his stay in Den Bosch until the end of the season. The 1.93m tall guard is eligible to play next Wednesday in the FIBA Europe Cup game versus HAKRO Merlins Crailsheim.

History in EuroLeague
Vecvagars is arriving from Cáceres CB from the Spanish LEB Gold, the league in which he previously played for Bàsquet Girona, Força Lleida CE and Palencia. His career has included playing for Lithuanian Zalgiris, where he has 22 games behind his name at the highest European level, the EuroLeague. Last 2.5 seasons in the LEB Gold, Vecvagars accounted for 9.3 points (36.8 FG% and 33.2 3P%) per game.

Experienced and able to adapt quickly
Sports Director Roel van de Graaf explains: "After we drew the conclusion that it was better to give Austin more time to get healthy, we had 72 hours to find a replacement. That was due to the deadline to get the player eligible to play the game against Crailsheim in the FIBA Europe Cup. That's how we ended up with Vecvagars." Head coach Erik Braal adds: "Kaspars is an experienced player who can help us right away and hopefully fit in quickly. He knows what we expect from him and is aware of the role he will have with the loss of Boy and Austin."

Talented team
"I immediately feel that I am part of the group," says Vecvagars enthusiastically after his first training session at the Maaspoort. He continues: "It was a warm welcome at the club. The level at practice is very competitive. I am happy to join this talented team and look forward to helping the club for at least the next five weeks, starting Wednesday in the important game for the FIBA Europe Cup!"
